International Guerrilla Fireworks Festival
- Scheveningen, The Netherlands
- September 5, 2020
Despite restrictions due to the COVID pandemic, with all public events canceled, Scheveningen made history with an extraordinary, unannounced alternative to its famous annual fireworks festival. Usually featuring fireworks displays that stretched over several weekends, this year celebrated its 40th edition. To mark the occasion, a guerrilla-style event was organized, combining a breathtaking drone show, fireworks, a light show and live music by the duo Amy Root.
The drone show dominated the scene, capturing the attention of casual passersby as the drones launched from the beach and performed above the sea, right next to the iconic Scheveningen pier. This show featured abstract circles dancing to music, a rotating globe, the map of the Netherlands and the number 75, marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. Each show illuminated the sky with precision and beauty, creating a visual narrative that left spectators speechless.
The event was not publicized, which added to its mystique, but those who were fortunate enough to attend witnessed an extraordinary fusion of technology and art. The show was also streamed live on YouTube, allowing a wider audience to experience the magic of drones lighting up the sky in this historic celebration.
