Guerilla International Firework Festival

International Guerrilla Fireworks Festival

  • Scheveningen, The Netherlands
  • September 5, 2020

Despite restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with all public events canceled, Scheveningen made history with an extraordinary, unannounced alternative to its famous annual fireworks festival. Typically featuring fireworks displays that lasted several weekends, this year marked its 40th edition. To mark the occasion, a guerrilla-style event was organized, combining a breathtaking drone show, fireworks, a light show, and live music by the duo Amy Root.

The drone show took center stage, captivating the attention of casual passersby as the drones launched from the beach and performed above the sea, right next to the iconic Scheveningen Pier. This spectacle featured abstract circles dancing to music, a rotating globe, the map of the Netherlands, and the number 75, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. Each performance illuminated the sky with precision and beauty, creating a visual narrative that left viewers in awe.

The event wasn’t publicized, which only added to its air of mystery, but those lucky enough to attend were treated to an extraordinary fusion of technology and art. The show was also livestreamed on YouTube, allowing a wider audience to experience the magic of the drones lighting up the sky during this historic celebration.
